What a weekend we had (my wife and I). I went to run the 'Om-die-dammetjie' half marathon around the Witklip dam on 16 September 2006 (all the way from Pretoria). Then started looking for one evening accomodation for two. A fellow runner (Frik Dippenaar) spent about 30 minutes elaborating on the cuisine (5 course meal for dinner) and breakfast at Karula. E-mailed them for information and fell on my back when Tom answered. We stayed in room 15 (classified as non-smoking, as the carpets and curtains were recently re-done). There is a pool to swim in, a lovely patio next to the bar to sit and enjoy the sounds of the birds. I can only confirm that the dinner was delicious. With breakfast, do yourself a favour and order an omelette, that is to say if omelettes are what you like. You can have an egg in any form - and I love eggs. :-) Ok, so it sounds like I can only rave about the food, yip, I had reason to. If you need to spoil your family or loved one, give Karula a serious thought. I was actually reluctant to fill in this review, my thoughts being that if they become too popular, then I might not be able to book a room sometime in the future. I would not like to end up in such a situation. Then again, if others can benefit from hearing about our most positive experience, then so be it. I can recommend Karula. Make sure you arrive for dinner 'hungry' and go easy on the salad, there is still 5 courses to enjoy. :-) Regards. Elbert.
