Itinerary

Day 1 Tanzania – Moshi
Today you will be picked up at your hotel in Nairobi and transferred by shuttle to Moshi via Arusha, going through the Tanzanian border. If the weather is favourable we might get our first glimpse of the worlds tallest freestanding mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m). Tonight you will be briefed by one of the guides about your adventure.

Day 2 Kilimanjaro NP
After breakfast we depart for the Eastern side of Kilimanjaro to start our trek. We begin our ascent up into the rainforest to the Mandara Huts (2750m). After today’s hike we have the chance to go for a short walk to Maundi Crater where we can view Kenya and Northern Tanzania.

Day 3 Kilimanjaro NP
After a good night’s rest on the slopes, we head for our next destination, Horombo Huts (3720m). The vegetation today will be heath land and small shrubs. We will be stopping half way for lunch where we will get some amazing views of Mawenzi (5149m), one of Kilimanjaro’s peaks.

Day 4 Kilimanjaro NP
We get up at sunrise and after breakfast we set off for Kibo Huts (4703m). The first half of the hike traverses the upper heath land while the second half crosses the vast saddle that connects Mawenzi and Kibo. The saddle of Kilimanjaro is an alpine desert that resembles a lunar landscape. More great views of the peaks can be seen today.

Day 5 Uhuru Peak (Summit)
Early morning we start our final trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro. We advance upon steep and heavy scree reaching Gilman’s Point on the crater rim of the mountain located at 5681m, and then on to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa located at 5895m. After we leave Uhuru Peak, we will return to the Horombo encampment for the evening.

Day 6 Moshi
Our journey downwards takes us past the Mandara encampment and back to the entrance point of the park. We will make our way back to our hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest.

Day 7 Kenya - Nairobi
After breakfast you will be transferred back to Nairobi where your Kili adventure ends!
