Sanctuary Chief's Camp is located on Chief's Island, one of the many islands created by the seasonal floodwaters of the Okavango. The island was named after Chief Moremi, the hereditary king of the area who used the lands as his royal hunting grounds. The vast number of animals who congregate here make it easy to understand why the area was put aside for the chief. It was Moremi's people, the Tawana, who turned it into a reserve where animals are protected.
The guest pavilions are hidden away in a jackalberry and sausage tree woodland that is characteristic of the area. All have their own private decks and indoor and outdoor showers. Generously draped mosquito nets and traditional ceiling fans also feature. There is a communal decked living room with stunning views over the floodplains, while the dining area surrounds a fire pit on the very edge of the Piajio plains so that guests can continue their game viewing while enjoying fine cuisine and wines.
Sanctuary Chief's Camp Amenities
The camp, constructed on a greenfield site, is made up of 12 luxury bush pavilions. Each pavilion boasts a spacious seating area and private game viewing deck. En-suite facilities include an indoor and outdoor shower. Each room is equipped with a hairdryer, ceiling fan, in-room safe, emergency hand held radios and minibar. The main lodge complex houses the dining area, bar, curio shop, library and reception area.
The main deck area is split-level and offers expansive views over the floodplain to the north. The lower level of the deck houses the swimming pool. There is a treatment room at the camp with a range of treatments using Thalgo and Africology
products. Electricity is supplied by a silent generator system allowing 24-hour power supply.
Area Attractions
Apart from its predators, the area is also renowned for its large concentrations of plains-game, elephant and buffalo. Both white and black rhino were introduced here in 2001 and 2003 respectively.
Game Drives
Enjoy thrilling guided game drives lead by highly qualified professional guides in customised open 4 x 4 game viewing vehicles. Game drives are conducted early morning and late afternoon.
