Shooting Star is a small and tranquil oasis, located in a delightful refuge from the world in the beautiful Kiwengwa Beach on the NorthEast Coast of Zanzibar just a short 45 minute drive from Zanzibar's International Airport.
Shooting Star Lodge is the pride and joy of Elly, a local Zanzibarian who owns and manages Shooting Star with a team of friendly and helpful staff whose mission is to make your stay the most memorable one and take those memories with you to last you a lifetime. This level of standard has gained Shooting Star a well earned reputation for its friendly atmosphere and personal service.
The best way to describe Shooting Star is by saying that is a tranquil and delightful refuge from the world offering views that are simply spectacular. Elly has built Shooting Star to the highest of standards, in traditional Zanzibari style with white limewashed walls, high beamed ceilings and large windows surrounded by a number of little lounging areas, all nicely decked out with Zanzibarian furniture and nice touches such as fabrics, and carvings, all of which is nestled on a headland amongst lush tropical gardens, Shooting Star overlooks the beautiful coconut palm fringed, fine white sands of Kiwengwa beach. The atmosphere is intimate and tranquil with spectacular views across a coral reef to the azure Indian Ocean beyond.
Accommodation at Shooting Star Shooting Star offers its guests accommodation in just 14 rooms which makes them the ideal retreat to get it away from it all. The rooms are divided into their Sea View Cottages and their Garden Cottages that have been set apart from each other and the bar and restaurant area to enable their guests to relax, and enjoy the peace and tranquillity that Shooting Star has to offer.
The Sea View Cottages are light and spacious with en suite bathrooms, built in keeping with traditional Zanzibari styles of architecture with airy, high beamed ceilings, large windows and air-conditioning. All have traditionally carved wooden Zanzibari beds, with beautifully dyed mosquito net canopies and matching Tanzanian ‘vintage’ bed covers, along with coconut wood wall mirrors and other hand made teak wood furniture. They also offer a private verandas offering breathtaking views of Kiwengwa Beach, the coral reef and the Indian Ocean below.
Four of our Sea View Cottages are set out on two levels and are ideal for families: the ground floor has a large air conditioned double bedroom, shower room and separate closet, and a staircase leads up to a twin children’s room in the roof space, whilst there is a separate wash basin area on the upper level, the shower and toilet are shared in the ground floor. The upper level has ceiling and table electric fans.
The Garden Cottages are smaller and more simply furnished with Zanzibarian beds, ceiling and table electric fans to complement Kiwengwa's cool sea breezes as well as en suite bathroom facilities with hot and cold water. The Garden Cottages have been built together as a Lodge, each with its own terrace leading on to the landscaped flourishing tropical gardens.
Dining at Shooting Star Shooting Star offers its guests 3 different dining areas to choose from as well as the open air restaurant and bars which provide views over the tropical gardens and the stunning azure waters of the Indian Ocean.
Guests and other visitors who come to enjoy Shooting Star’s fine meals, renowned across the island, enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner surrounded by natural beauty while soaking up the gentle sounds of birdsong and the sea. They serve a wide variety of African and international cuisine using only the superb local produce to prepare succulent meals and specialise in lobster, meat grills and smoked fish, using traditional African recipes. Their menus change daily so you wont be stuck with the same choice of meals for long.
The beach bar is a perfect place to relax and unwind in the daytime, stocked with soft drinks, beers, South African wines and international spirits you will always find something to enjoy and cool down with. Lunch can be served here and private barbecues or sunrise breakfasts can be arranged.

THe Shooting Star is a wonderful spot to acclimate to the beautiful setting of the Indian Ocean, with a very friendly staff. I've visited this lodge numerous times and it is one of my most favorite places on this earth. Give it try. Tell Elli I said hi and send a hug.
